The Myanmar Coastal Conservation Lab at Point B Design + Training was formed in early 2017, by three alumni of the Design Thinking program at Point B: Wint Hte, Aung Naing Soe, and Yin Yin Htay. After completing the intensive Design Thinking program in late 2016, they were working as the research team for then-postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Tara Sayuri Whitty, on some social-ecological research in coastal communities in Myanmar. They were inspired by this newly-gained field experience to bring their knowledge and love of Design Thinking, education, and environmental research together in the form of the Myanmar Coastal Conservation Lab, or MCCL!
Today, these three co-founders work closely with Dr. Whitty, who continues as a mentor. In turn, MCCL mentors full-time interns and part-time student interns. Together, we conduct research, develop and implement trainings to build research skills, and build awareness of environmental issues and conservation through education, outreach, and communication.
